Pastor Roy D. Thomas

Rev. Roy Dean Thomas was born in Webster County, Georgia.† He is the fifth of six children born to Bennie and Naomi Thomas.† He is married to Evangelist Jacqueline H. Thomas and together they have four adult children and eight grandchildren.

Rev. Thomas was baptized and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Webster County Georgia under the Pastorate of Rev. G. W. Nealy, where he was nurtured and instructed in Biblical Christian doctrine.† After graduation, he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area where he united with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, in Alexandria, VA.†

During his service at Mount Pleasant, he was the President of the Ushers Ministry; Prison Ministry Director; and Chairmen of the By-Laws; and Pastor Search Committees.† Other leadership roles included; the Menís Fellowship, Grief Support Ministry, multiple choirs, and the culinary committee.† On January 11, 1981 he was ordained as a Deacon by the Dr. Carroll A. Baltimore, Sr. where he served until he answered his call to the ministry.† On January 10, 1993, Rev. Thomas was licensed to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.† After satisfactory examination, he was ordained as a gospel preacher at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, by Dr. Harry H. Pilson.†

On September 7, 2002 Rev. Thomas joined the staff of the Heritage Fellowship Church as Special Assistant to Dr. N.A Tate.†† While working with Dr. Tate, Rev. Thomas gained great knowledge and insight concerning the administrative workings of a growing church.† Rev. Thomas taught, in the weekly HFUCC Bible Institute, met with and counseled members, married couples, and developed the Seniors Ministry.† In addition, he worked with Pastor Tate in developing programs that enhance Christian growth.†† Gaining great pearls of wisdom from this experience, Rev. Thomas uses these skills to nurture and mentor Godís people.

Rev. Thomas is the Pastor and spiritual leader of the Nazareth Baptist Church in Washington, D. C. where his emphasis is on prayer, the Word of God, and unity.† This has enhanced the spiritual growth and development of the Nazareth members.† Rev. Thomas is an active member of the Washington DC and Vicinity Ministerís Conference, and is on the Executive Board of the Northern Virginia Ministerís Conference.† He is on the Board of Directors of Grace Evangelistic Ministries, and serves on the Board of the University of the District of Columbia, Department of Nursing.

Rev. Thomas is an advocate for education and has continues to educate himself.† He has a Bachelor's of Science in Pastoral and Biblical Studies from Lancaster Bible College, Lanham, Md., where he continues his study for his Masterís in Pastoral and Biblical Studies.† Further he has earned a degree in Computer Science, and graduated with a certification in Expository Preaching from the E.K. Bailey International Expository Preaching Conference, Dallas, Texas, received certificates in Homiletics, and Ministerial Counseling from the Wilbur Waters Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., and was certified in Preaching at the National Conference on Preaching in 2008.

 

Rev. Thomas is a true man of integrity, and holds loves his family and enjoys serving God and his people.† His prayer is that people would repent and come to know Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord and experience the Power of His Resurrection.† One his favorite scriptures is, Philippians 4:13, ďI can do all things through Christ which strengthened me,Ē which consistently reminds him that his help is in the Lord.
